The Lake District encompasses 900 square miles and offers a unique blend of tranquil lakes, lofty peaks and a sheer beauty, which has been the inspirations for generations of premier poets and writers. The Lake District is home to England’s highest mountain, multiple bodies of water and over 500 secluded tarns. Amongst the many villages and places of note is Coniston, a former mining village, which is famous for being the former home of John Ruskin and location of Donald Campbell’s ill-fated world water speed record.

The Yorkshire Dales: Up above is heather moorland and distinctive hills, such as the much loved Three Peaks. There is the Settle to Carlisle railway which cuts through the National Park using tunnels and viaducts, including the iconic Ribblehead. Whilst you are here why not try some Wensleydale Cheese or go on a sampling tour at one of the local breweries?

Driving in the Dales is a highlight for the driving enthusiast, and everyone has their own favourite stretch of Dales road. Perhaps it’s the endless vistas sweeping before you or the splendid isolation you feel when you’re the only car gliding along a particular route that draws you here. Or could it be the knowledge that a certain strip of asphalt is usually traffic (and sheep) free and cruise along through a magical landscape that makes driving in the Dales a must?
