DUTCH DELIGHTS

WINDMILLS & WATERWAYS

Savour a short break to Holland with its world famous windmills, waterways and flower fields. Loosdrecht, which is known for its beautiful lakes, is an ideal base to explore many of Holland’s cities and attractions. In spring, why not explore Holland’s vibrant and vivid flower fields and blooming gardens such as the Keukenhof Gardens or explore the Louwman Car Museum, a mecca for car enthusiasts, featuring one of the most impressive private car collections in the world.

Experience Zaanse Schans Folk Park which is the Netherlands in a nutshell; a town of traditional Dutch crafts and architecture, with six windmills, a wooden shoe workshop, cheese farm and more.

Volendam is one of Holland’s real gems. A typical Dutch fishing village that has hardly changed for six centuries. The characteristic small houses, the canals and the drawbridges form the most picturesque spots, presenting the visitor with an atmosphere of tranquillity and romance.

Louwman Car Museum in the Hague was opened to the public in July 2010. It plays host to private collector, Evert Louwman’s, extensive range of over 230 historic cars and the world’s largest collection of automotive art.

The Flower Route starts in Haarlem and runs for approximately 25 miles south to Leiden. This drive takes in the densest concentration of flower fields, with tulips, hyacinth, narcissi and daffodils forming thick primary colour ribbons off in all directions and as far as the eye can see. Flowers are only in bloom until the end of April, so this is a must see on our spring departures.

Keukenhof Gardens is one of the largest spring flower gardens in the world and is in the small town of Lisse. Each autumn, more than 7 million flower bulbs from 800 tulip varieties are planted in order to bloom in spring. The garden is only open until end of April so this is a must see on our spring departures.
