JEC invite you on an unforgettable 5 day driving escape through the majestic landscapes of Yorkshire and the Pennines. Designed exclusively for JEC members, this curated tour combines the thrill of motoring with the elegance of country living. Stay in the exquisite Headlam Hall Hotel & Rural Retreat, a 4*Plus property nestled in serene countryside, offering a refined yet welcoming atmosphere.
Enjoy four nights complete with private JEC dining each evening. Two full-day scenic drives (Day 2 and Day 4) will take you along organised tulip routes, supported by GPX navigation files for those who prefer to use their smart phone vs the paper road books. Our routes will feature some of the best drives in the area, which have all been recently recce’d, and will include highlights such as the Buttertubs pass, the highest Inn in England, and an obligatory stop in Wensleydale for some much needed cheese!
The Yorkshire Dales is famous for its wonderful scenery with its deep valleys, known as dales, with roads meandering between drystone walls and a patchwork of hay meadows and field barns. Up above is heather moorland and distinctive hills, such as the much loved Three Peaks. There is the Settle to Carlisle railway which cuts through the National Park using tunnels and viaducts, including the iconic Ribblehead. Why not try some Wensleydale Cheese or go on a sampling tour at one of the local breweries? Both the Theakston’s Brewery and the Black Sheep Brewery offer tasting and guided tours where you can find out how they brew their famous ales. Driving in the Dales must be a highlight for the driving enthusiast, and everyone has their own favourite stretch of Dales road. Perhaps it’s the endless vistas sweeping before you or the splendid isolation you feel when you’re the only car gliding along a particular route that draws you here.
The Pennines is one of England’s most special places: a stunning landscape of open heather moors and peatlands, attractive dales and hay meadows, tumbling upland rivers, wonderful woods, welcoming communities, intriguing imprints of a mining and industrial past, distinctive birds, animals and plants and much, much more. The old homes and shops of Haworth are solidly built of local stone. Tall and very skinny, clinging as they do to the steep valley side, overlooking the River Worth. Enjoy a stroll among them as you walk the narrow, steep, cobblestone streets – once trodden by the Bronte sisters.
