Our New Zealand 2 Island Tour is one of the world's great road journeys, so deciding what car you should choose is an important decision. You can of course ship your own car over to New Zealand, however this is something you really need to think about, alternately and the most popular option is hiring a car for the journey and we offer 2 options.
You have the choice of Standard Car Hire OR to enhance your driving experience we have partnered up with 'RentAClassic NZ' where you can rent a Classic or Modern Sports Car - see below.

Standard Hire Car in New Zealand
This is a popular choice of our customers on our New Zealand Tours. We offer a choice of vehicles, utilising some of the best known car rental companies including; Europcar & Sixt. Car Rental in the New Zealand offers you the peace of mind that , irrespective of what problems you may encounter during your journey, there is support on hand 24 hours a day.

Car Excess Insurance*
When you collect your hire car you will asked for a credit card to cover an Insurance excess of 4000 NZD. This amount will not be taken or held on your card, although a deposit of 250 NZD will be required when collecting your car. In the case of a claim, 4000 NZD is the maximum amount you will have to pay towards the overall cost of any claim. In the case of an accident or damage to the vehicle. We therefore recommend that you take out a Excess Cover Policy from your insurer or a third party to cover this amount.

We have teamed up with Rent A Classic in New Zealand to give you the opportunity to choose from a range of superbly presented range of Classic & modern sports cars including; convertibles, coupés & saloons from the finest premium sporting marques like Jaguar, Alfa Romeo, Lexus, BMW and MG.
'Rent A Classic NZ' offers a high quality service and product with cars of high calibre, uniqueness and enjoyment rarely found for hire. Hire prices include unlimited km, insurance for both islands and multiple drivers, one way hire fee, roadside assistance, personal familiarisation session and documentation for your car.

How it works:
1. You call us to confirm which car you would like to book.
2. We will then contact Rent A Classic NZ to confirm availability and reserve your chosen car.
3. Rent A Classic NZ will then contact you directly to finalise your car hire reservation, at which point you will be required to pay a 20% deposit with the balance payable 2 months prior to the tour.
4. A deduction of £1800.00 will be made from your total tour booking price for the 'standard car hire' charge.

Luggage space is limited in many of the cars featured above and our luggage indication is a only a guide. If booking a convertible/coupe we recommend soft luggage only which can be stored more easily, many suitcases will not fit. Please ask for exact dimensions.

Car Excess Insurance**
When you collect your hire car you will be asked for a credit card to cover your Insurance excess. This amount will not be taken or held on your card. Whilst it's always Rent A Classics' intention to provide the specific car requested, they do reserve the right to change models offered e.g. due to circumstances beyond their control such as; breakdown, accidents, parts delay etc. In this instance an alternative vehicle will be offered from the same price band, subject to availability.
Shipping your own car
There are numerous shipping companies that will ship your car to New Zealand, however as this is not our field of expertise, we are reluctant to recommend any one particular company. If this is an option that wish to consider, you will need to ship your car into Auckland and back from Christchurch.

Things to remember

It is your responsibility to ensure your car arrives in the New Zealand in time to begin your journey

You should make sure the shipping company is fully insured and include all of the documentation for your vehicle in the New Zealand

You will need to arrange Insurance Cover & Breakdown Cover for your car whilst it is in the New Zealand
-
In the event of an accident or breakdown resulting in a delay during the journey, it will be your responsibility to re-arrange any accommodation to enable you to catch up or complete your journey

Finally, in the event of your car being unable to complete the journey, it will your responsibility to make any arrangements necessary to repatriate your vehicle to the UK, or cover any costs involved if you were to decide to leave your vehicle in New Zealand beyond the designated import duration.
