Open Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm
This Border 500 road trip stretches from Northumberland in the east, taking in the Scottish Lowlands and north Pennines, finally skirting west along the Solway coastline into Dumfries and Galloway to Portpatrick at the tip of the Irish Sea. From quaint fishing villages, and sandy beaches, through historic market towns, over vast moorland and through enchanting forests your journey will be full of interesting things to see & do with stunning scenery and roads.
For many the journey is not simply the means of getting from
'A to B' but instead an experience to be enjoyed and savoured. On today's crowded and congested roads, it is becoming a rarity to find the space to enjoy motoring for the very pleasure of it. On the Border 500 route the roads have been selected so you can indulge in that very driving pleasure. Open moorland roads, twisty hill passes, coastal cruises, the Border 500 welcomes considerate driving enthusiasts, and car clubs to enjoy all that the region has to offer.
Northumberland is a magical place filled with ancient castles; hidden gardens; unspoilt beaches; rolling hills; rugged moorland; sweeping views; friendly little market towns and a cultural heritage all of its own.
Scottish Borderlands - From the rolling hills and moorland in the west to the gentle valleys and picturesque Berwickshire coastline in the east, it is easy to see why Sir Walter Scott was so enamoured with this peaceful region that he chose to build his beloved house, Abbotsford here.
North Pennines is one of England’s most special places, a stunning landscape of open heather moors and peatlands, attractive dales and hay meadows, tumbling upland rivers, wonderful woods, welcoming communities, intriguing imprints of a mining and industrial past, distinctive birds, animals and plants and much, much more.
Dumfries & Galloway - The first thing you'll notice is just how beautiful this lowland part of Scotland is. From the rocky and sandy Solway Coast looking out for miles across the sea, to the lush green inland forests and hills, it's simply amazing. And it's not just us that think so - writers such as Robert Burns, artists and many more have been inspired by these lands.
